  • Stop Bar and High-Visibility Crosswalks

    • 24 inch-wide, solid white lines extending across all lanes in one direction to indicate where vehicles are to stop
    • Provides additional visual reminder to stop
    • Gives guidance where to stop before entering intersection
    • Used to guide motorists to the optimal stopping point when visibility is poor or crash history shows frequent stop sign violations
  • Raised Crosswalks

    • Flat-topped speed humps with crosswalk markings
    • Covers the entire width of the roadway
    • Improves safety for pedestrians and reduces vehicle speeds
  • Intersection Curb Extensions

    • Narrows the roadway width from curb to curb and tighten the curb radii at the corner
    • Improves pedestrian safety by shortening crossing distance
    • Creates protected on-street parking bays
    • Reduces speed of turning vehicles
  • Bike Lane Pavement Markings

    • Marked approximately five feet from the curb or edge of pavement
    • Bike symbols and arrows placed within bike lane along with roadside signage
    • Provides a place for bicyclists to ride in their own designated lane
    • Narrows the motor vehicle travel lane which may cause motorists to reduce their operating speeds
  • Improved Parking Lane Pavement Markings

    (On-Street Parking)

    • Created by marking an 8-inch-wide solid white stripe parallel to the curb or pavement edge
    • Narrows the motor vehicle travel lane which may cause motorists to reduce their speeds
    • Keeps vehicles further away from the side of the roadway providing a buffer area next to the sidewalk
  • Centerline Pavement Markings

    • Separates opposing traffic with solid or dashed lines based on passing rules
    • Narrows perceived lane width, encouraging cautious driving
    • Prevents drifting or informal passing when centerlines are absent
    • Improves guidance at curves and in low-visibility or nighttime conditions
  • Median Island

    • Raised areas located mid-block in the center of a roadway
    • Narrows the travel lanes, separates opposing traffic flows, and directs travel movement around
    • May reduce the speed of vehicles
    • Improves pedestrian safety and driver awareness
  • Convert to One-Way Street

    • Convert streets to one-way travel to simplify movements and reduce conflicts
    • Reduce conflict points for calmer, more predictable traffic flow
    • Reallocate roadway space for bikes, parking, or landscaping to narrow lanes and slow vehicle speeds
  • Dutch-Style Protected Intersection*

    • Reduce turning speeds with corner islands and tighter turning radii to increase driver caution
    • Separate modes to clearly define interactions between vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians
    • Minimize conflict risk through predictable movements and safer driver behavior
  • Traffic Signal Improvements*

    • Upgrade signals with modern hardware, improved timing, and accessibility features
    • Add lead pedestrian intervals for better visibility and driver yielding
    • Optimize timing to reduce abrupt stops, maintain steady speeds, and discourage speeding
    • Enhance safety with protected turn phrases and advanced detection
  • Mini Roundabout*

    • Raised, circular islands that are used within intersections in residential areas to reduce vehicle operating speeds and improve safety at intersections
    • Provides traffic calming devices for two or more streets
    • May reduce right angle crashes

*These options are longer-term solutions that require additional design time and identification of additional funding
