The Town of Standish, in coordination with the Greater Portland Council of Governments, is undertaking a study to determine the feasibility and long-term viability of a commuter park-and-ride lot to facilitate ridesharing, transit use and serve recreational areas like Sebago Lake and Randall Orchards for town residents and others living in or commuting through Southern Maine.

The town will observe current parking patterns, review best practices nationally, and consider feedback gathered through an online survey to determine if a commuter park-and-ride facility could be a solution to the mobility concerns experienced in Standish. The primary study area will be Standish town boundaries, with a focus on the State Routes 25 and 35 corridors. The project commenced in Spring 2025 and will conclude in late Fall 2025.

Potential Benefits:

Increasing safety for pedestrians crossing

Potentially provide additional parking options for recreational areas located at or near standish

Determine optimum parking utilization in Standish

Increase opportunities for alternatives modes of transportation, such carpooling, vanpooling or micromobility modes (i.e., e-bikes) to Portland & etc.

Explore overnight parking in Standish

Potentially free up parking spaces in town center
