K96 Improvements Project
The K-96 Improvements Project aims to upgrade the K-96 corridor between I-135 and I-35. Improvements are needed to increase freeway capacity, enhance reliability and relieve traffic congestion to keep Kansans moving.
The project area extends from the K-96 and I-135 interchange (near Hydraulic Avenue) approximately 9.5 miles east/southeast to north of the K-96/U.S. 54/400 interchange. Through traffic engineering studies and environmental review, the project will explore pavement replacement, adding new lanes and includes upgrades to the Hillside, Oliver, Woodlawn, Rock, Webb, Greenwich, and 21st Street interchanges.
Community Engagement
We want to hear from you! K-96 is an important link in our community for moving people and goods. The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) in partnership with the City of Topeka is planning the pavement replacement project with added safety, access and anticipated economic development benefits. We need your input to ensure that improvements reflect the needs of our various communities.
